Howard Brynt D. Fuentes, CAT®, CMA®,  is a multi-certified accounting professional with a strong foundation in bookkeeping, taxation, and financial management. A member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants, and the National Institute of Accounting Technicians. His international certifications—including MICB, and CAT—demonstrate his pursuit of globally recognized qualifications that strengthen his credibility in the field.

Beyond certifications, Howard has actively pursued continuous learning through specialized trainings. These include the Bookkeepers Summit Manila 2021, where he learned practical strategies in managing cash, payroll issues, withholding tax rules, stress management, and analytical procedures in audits, as well as the Accounting Technician Congress 2023, which covered compliance, risk management, cybersecurity, productivity, fraud detection, and performance metrics in finance. His diverse training highlights his adaptability to the evolving demands of the accounting profession.

What Led Him to Pursue Certification through the National Institute of Accounting Technicians?

When asked what inspired him to pursue NIAT certification, Howard explained:

“I was interested in working abroad, and I came to know that by becoming a NIAT member, I could earn certificates that are globally recognized in lieu of a professional license that is being issued by the Professional Regulation Commission.”

How Did Earning His Certification from NIAT Impact His Career Opportunities or Confidence in the Field?

Reflecting on its impact, he shared:

“The certificates I earned from NIAT such as MICB, RCA, and CAT did not have an impact on having a better salary but the knowledge I learned from taking those examinations was worth it and useful that I can apply in my accounting profession. I have known from my friends who work in HR as a recruiter or interviewer that licenses or certificates are just second to the experiences of the applicant. But it could also be an advantage against other competitors that having these certifications can make me more credible but doesn’t have that much of an impact on my salary.
